Dr. Wendy Packman is a Professor of Psychology at Pacific Graduate School of Psychology in Palo Alto, California. She has written extensively on sibling bereavement and continuing bonds, the impact of a child’s death on parents, and the psychological impact of pet loss. Gordon Bolar’s 24-year-old son Army Spc. Matthew died in 2007 while serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Matthew died in Baghdad of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device. He had volunteered for a second tour of duty. Jerry Yellin; The Hidden Wounds of War

Jerry Yellin enlisted in the Army Air Corps on his 18th birthday. He was in combat in the Pacific Theater and Iwo Jima with the 78th Fighter Squadron and participated in the first land based fighter mission over Japan on April 7, 1945 and the last mission of the war on August 14, 1945. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with an Oak Leaf cluster and the Air Medal with four Oak Leaf clusters. Brigadier General Roger Machut: In My Brother’s Foot Steps

He followed in his brother’s footsteps and joined the Marine Corps and led his battalion into Iraq at the commencement of the war in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Ann Hood; Adoption After Loss

Ann Hood is a professional writer whose 5 year old daughter Grace, died in 2002 of a virulent form of strep. In the years that followed Ann found herself unable to read, write, or focus. As her life came back together Ann and her husband decided to do something proactive to bring joy and hope back into their lives and to give a sibling to their son, Sam. They adopted a daughter from China and named her, Anabelle.
