Christopher Meadows, a Sheriff’s Department search and rescue team member who died in an all-terrain-vehicle incident at the Oceano Dunes two years ago while responding to a call, will have a patrol/rescue boat named after him.
The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to officially honor Meadows with a resolution Tuesday.
“There is a long-standing tradition in the law enforcement marine community of naming vessels after dedicated employees who have made the ultimate sacrifice,” Sheriff Ian Parkinson wrote in a report to supervisors.
“Dedicating a vessel in Christopher’s memory will allow his commitment and energy to continue to be honored and to abide by the motto ‘That Others May Live!’ ” Parkinson wrote.
Meadows, 24, was responding to a report of a person having a broken leg at Oceano Dunes when his ATV rolled over on him. The accident occurred May 24, 2009.
The boat is regularly used to patrol Nacimiento Lake.
