Being Exquisitely Seen
May 29, 2019
Books Saved Me I’ve been a lover of words and books and writers since childhood. I treasure the way we can be educated, transported, and transformed through what we read and the stories we share. Every so often, I hear a phrase strung together, like pearls on a string, that resonates deeply in my soul. How a phrase lands can be as breathtaking as the most beautiful view from a mountaintop. During difficult times, I’ve often turned to books for comfort, wisdom, and to feel less alone in my struggles. The author that saved me from my grief was Viktor […]

Don’t Ask Me To Get Over Grief with Dr. Gloria and Dr. Heidi Horsley
April 23, 2019
It will be 2 years ago in April when my son died. He drank a lot and that drinking caused his heart to become weak and in the night it just quit. They were not able to revive him. I am struggling with this and like everyone I have guilt that I should have been able to help him even though he was 36 and didn’t live with me. Does it ever feel like people look at you like you need to be over it? https://media.blubrry.com/open_to_hope_1/www.opentohope.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Dont-Ask-Me-To-Get-Over-Grief-with-DrGloria-and-Dr.-Heidi-Horsley.mp3Podcast: Play in new window | Download

Grief Through the Rearview Mirror
April 7, 2019
This big, horrible thing happens. You lose the person with whom you chose to partner for the challenging, amazing, and, sometimes, scary thing called life. Each of us has our own unique experiences of the grieving process. Yet, it’s normal to feel like you have no idea how you’ll go on without them. Whether I like it or not, nearly twenty years after my husband’s death, I am living and breathing without him. I couldn’t imagine in the early days of losing him I would eventually have a life I could love again. It wasn’t easy. I needed to do […]
Surviving Widowhood: Check Your Track Record
February 10, 2019
There is something about widowhood that brings you to your knees. I remember feeling trapped in an alternative universe trying to make sense of the chaos that surrounded me. The most troubling part was that the one person who was capable of steadying my boat – even as the sea of life raged around me – was the reason for my storm. In March 2012, I got the call no wife ever wants to hear. My husband was dead. We had been married for all of one year and six days. It didn’t seem fair that I’d spent so many […]
