65: Sibling Loss

On this show Dr. Gloria Horsley and Dr. Heidi Horsley discuss the impact of losing a sibling with Elizabeth Devita-Raeburn whose brother Ted, died of an immune disorder. She is the author of “The Empty Room: Losing a Brother or Sister At Any Age”. The second guest will be Molly Gandour a documentary Filmmaker and producer of the Academy Award-nominated documentary Gasland. A clip will be shown from her most recent documentary film “Peanut Gallery” based on the death of her fourteen year-old sister, Aimee to leukemia.

On this show Dr. Gloria Horsley and Dr. Heidi Horsley interview John Welshons counselor, teacher and lecturer.  As a young child John contracted polio and faced death but had a miraculous recovery. He is the author of Awakening From Grief; One Soul, One Love, One Heart and When Prayers Aren’t Answered.  Tribute is paid to deceased author and teacher Dr. Wayne Dyer. Dr. Dyer wrote the foreword to Awakening From Grief.  A clip featuring Dr. Dyer is played.

On this show Dr. Heidi and Dr. Gloria Horsley interview jazz singer, producer and actor, Cristina Morrison about the loss of both her parents and how she has coped and gone on to find hope.  The second interview is with Dr. Marian Sokol, Executive Director of the Children’s Bereavement Center of Texas in San Antonio regarding the needs of children who have suffered a loss.  A video clip is shown of the Bereavement Center and then Marian shows examples of arts and crafts that help children to heal.

On This show Dr. Gloria Horsley and Dr. Heidi Horsley moderate a panel of women regarding women and grief.  The panel includes Chris Gigliotti, Adam’s mom, Anne Castaldo, Tony’s mom and president of the Tony Brown foundation and Brooke Smith Kennedy’s mom and creator of Knot My Baby.  The women discuss the difficulty of being a couple but also having space to grieve alone.  They also share how they have coped with their losses and have gone on to again find hope.   The video clip “Taking A Break From Our Grief” moderated by Dr. Heidi Horsley is played.
