Poem: Colors

September 26, 2007

The Earth lost all its color the day you went away I look around and all I see are different shades of gray If I to traveled up to space and looked in the rear view mirror The Earth would be as pale as the moon Without you living here. The forests dull, fields turning brown All I know each day is that you’re not around. Bright orange poppies Amazing color you might see… But even they look faded… insignificant to me. Where did the beauty go? Why can’t I see it? Why did the world fade away. It doesn’t […]

Poem: Traveling Through Grief

September 12, 2007

Together, we will walk Through our grief Mourning the loss of our children Taken in the night by a thief. Our angels will be our light Showing us the way As we journey through this night. Darkness surrounding us everywhere Feeling the dampness of the air. We will hold each other up While our angels light our way We will walk through this darkness As we go through yet another day. Poem: The New Lana

September 12, 2007

I miss the old Lana? The one who was so silly and carefree The one who could find joy and something good in any situation. What became of the Lana that people used to love? Where did she go? Will she return? Can she return? What happened to the old Lana? I miss her so much Not only do I have to mourn the loss of my daughter, I have to mourn the loss of me. The old Lana died the day Alicia died. I pray she can find her way back, somehow. Will someone show her the way? I […]

My Beautiful 21-Year-Old Daughter Died

Kristy had a mini-stoke and the doctors were concerned because she was only 21 years old. She had a lot of tests done. They found that her right carotid artery in her neck leading to her […]

A Letter About Job Stress and Suicide

August 25, 2007

Workplace Stress And Suicide In many states, suicide is the second leading cause of death among young adults. In 1998, our son, Keith Loehr, started a job in new-product development after receiving his MBA. The stress from this job, along with the lack of support from his company, were major factors in his decision to end his life seven months later. The impact of his death was enormous. Counting our family, Keith’s co-workers, his friends, our friends, and my employees, Keith’s suicide hurt hundreds of people. The collective negative impact on morale and productivity was enormous. Companies should consider a […]

Website for Understanding Suicide & Depression

August 17, 2007

Carol Ann Loehr http://www.thegiftofkeith.org Thegiftofkeith.org On March 29, 1999, our son Keith died by suicide. At the time of his death I had no knowledge of suicide, and I was inundated with inaccurate and outdated descriptions of suicide and its causes. I have created a website as a memorial to my son, and also for information to help comfort and educate survivors of suicide, as well as clergy, health care professionals and counselors. People who have been dealing with depression or have suffered a loss from a suicide have found this website a safe and comforting source of information. I […]
